Blood Pressure

Blood pressure is the pressure exerted by circulating blood on the walls of blood vessels, and constitutes one of the principal vital signs. The pressure of the circulating blood decreases as it moves away from the heart through arteries and capillaries, and toward the heart through veins. When unqualified, the term blood pressure usually refers to brachial arterial pressure: that is, in the major blood vessel of the upper left or right arm that takes blood away from the heart. Blood pressure may, however, sometimes be measured at other sites in the body, for instance at the ankle.

Heart Disease

Coronary thrombosis cardiopathy is caused by coronary artery disease , the narrowing down of the arteria coronaria* due to fatty build ups of plaque. They're likely to produce angina pectoris (chest pain), heart attack or both.Coronary thrombosis cardiopathy caused 451,326 deaths in 2004 and is the single leading killer in United States today.16,000,000 people alive today have a history of heart attack, angina pectoris or both. This is about 8,700,000 males and 7,300,000 females. This year an estimated 1.2 million Americans will have a new or recurrent coronary attack.About 310,000 people a year die of coronary thrombosis in an Emergency Department or without being hospitalized. Most of these are sudden deaths caused by cardiopulmonary arrest, usually resulting from ventricular fibrillation (ven-TRIK'u-ler fib"rih-LA'shun).From 1994 to 2004 the death rate from coronary thrombosis cardiopathy declined 33 percent. In 2004, coronary thrombosis heart disease death rates per 100,000 people were 194.2 for white males and 223.9 for black males; and 114.7 for white female and 148.7 for black female. (Fatality rate* is 100,000 population. The rates use the year 2000 standard population for age adjustment.)
